The Trashmen – Tube city ( USA surf instrumental early 60′s )

Montag, den 28. Juni 2010

The Trashmen’s major notable hit was 1963′s “Surfin’ Bird”, which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the later part of that year. The song was a combination of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons, “The Bird’s the Word” and “Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow”. The earliest pressings of the single credit the Trashmen as composers, but following a threat from their legal counsel The Rivingtons were subsequently credited as composers. It was later recorded by many artists, including the Ramones, The Cramps, Silverchair, Pee-Wee Herman, Equipe 84, and even the thrash metal band Sodom. It has been used in several movies and television shows (such as well-known scenes in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket and John Waters’ Pink Flamingos). It is featured in the soundtrack in the video game Battlefield Vietnam. More recently it has been the subject of a 2008 episode of the animated series Family Guy, launching the song to #8 on the iTunes Top 10 Rock songs chart and #50 on the UK Singles Chart in 2009. [edit] Later history The Trashmen went on to have other hit singles on the charts. In 1964, “Bird Dance Beat” hit #30 on the Billboard in the United States[1], as well as becoming a top 10 hit in Canada, and a mega hit in Brazil. Five other Trashmen singles charted, and overall they released 14 albums. They were prolific enough for a four CD box set of their work to be released later. The group disbanded in 1967 but reunited in the 1980s, they played together until the death of Steve Wahrer, who

Don’t monkey with Tarzan…

Samstag, den 26. Juni 2010

The Chantays – Baja (USA surf instrumental early 60′s )

Freitag, den 25. Juni 2010

high school friends decided to start their own band. Bob Spickard, Brian Carman (co-writers of Pipeline), Bob Welch, Warren Waters and Rob Marshall were all students at Santa Ana High School in California, when they were inspired by a local group called The Rhythm Rockers. Spickard, Carman, Welch, Waters and Marshall got together forming The Chantays. The Chantays recorded and released their hit “Pipeline” in December 1962. “Pipeline” began to get radio play pushing it up the charts in 1963. The Chantays recorded their first full album in 1963 entitled Pipeline which included Pipeline, Blunderbus and El Conquistador. Their follow up was Two Sides of The Chantays in 1964. Their music combined electronic keyboards and surf guitar, creating a unique ghostly sound. Their songs have been on music charts all over the world which helped make surf music an international success. The Chantays toured Japan and the US joining the Righteous Brothers and Roy Orbison on a few occasions, and were the only rock and roll band to perform on the Lawrence Welk Show. [1] Lawrence Welk May 18, 1963 “Pipeline” has become a standard surf rock hit. It was written by Brian Carman and Bob Spickard and published as sheet music in 1962 by Downey Music Publishing. It has since been covered by Lawrence Welk himself (Dot – Album: “Scarlet O’Hara”), Al Caiola (United Artists – Album “Greasy Kid Stuff”), The Ventures, Agent Orange, Hank Marvin, Dick Dale with the help of Stevie Ray Vaughan (Grammy
